I want to start my baby to potty train soon, she is 9 months old, i was think maybe when she is 10/11 months old. My sister-n-law potty trained her daughter when she was 10 months old, by the time she was one, she would say to her mom, "potty", but she would only do #2. I wish my baby could do that too. What did you do, how soon did your baby start potty training?

Yes I agree good on your sister for being able to do that. But I think that is a little to early and even extreme. Babies or should I say toddlers will let you know when they are ready. First they need to be able to tell you when they need to do something before they can go potty. They need to understand their own bowel movements and such an if you rush or push them it only makes it worse and can scare them off. But if your daughter can tell you when she needs to go then put her on the potty and see if she can do anything. My mother pushed my 3rd daughter as she was a little slower than her older sisters and because she did this , my daughter was about 2 1/2 to 3 yrs old before she would go potty on her own without being afraid. Trust me I told my mother off for this. Now I have a 3 yr old who is trained and a 1 yr old boy who is trying to go potty as he sees everyone else going. I was amazed he actually grabbed the potty and went in it the other day. I would suggest at about 1yr – 1 1/2 yrs old is a better age as they can understand. :)

Hi! My name is Amy.
My daughter is 27 months old and has recently begun rejecting diapers, so we started the whole potty-training process. We got her a potty, showed her how to use it, played Elmo’s Potty Time video (a lot), and always put her on the potty first thing in the morning, at bath time and right before bed. She tugs on her diaper when she has to go during normal "playtime" hours, and we always respond by taking her straight to the potty.
The problem is, once we get there, she won’t stay on the potty. She gets up, runs off and piddles on the floor. If we try to catch her and put her back on the potty, she freaks out, screams at the top of her lungs and goes limp (protester-style), making it impossible to get her back on the potty.
The weird thing is that she seems to enjoy sitting on the potty when clothed, talking about the potty, watching the potty video, etc.
And now I’m starting to worry, because she’s begun crying and saying "I’m sorry" when she makes a piddle/poo in her diaper. She seems genuinely upset by it, and I don’t know how to communicate to her that it’s OK if she still goes in her diaper — it’s just THE GOAL to use the potty.
(AND NO, WE NEVER EVER SCOLD HER FOR ACCIDENTS. We’re always supportive.)
If you have any advice/techniques, etc., I would love to hear them!!!
Thanks :)

What worked for our daughter was a little treat she got to pick when she went potty. What I did was got a basket, went to the dollar store and picked out maybe $15 worth of well little things I know she would like…. I called it "The Treasure Chest" and she ONLY got to pick if she went on the potty. It worked like a charm because she was allowed to pick a treat from this basket full of stuff and to a tot that young that is FUN!! We did that for getting rid of the binky too. Whenever she would want the binky, we had her pick a treat and exchange her binky for it. Tots are all about "their choice" so if they are able to choose a treat they want, it’s better then just giving them something they didn’t pick. And these are just cheapy $1 things, but they don’t know that. LOL

My daughter has been potty trained 3 times now. She is 2 years old. When she potty trains, she gets super into it and does an AWESOME job. She goes in the potty every time and loves it! And then one day she’ll just say she doesn’t want to use the potty. I continue to ask her for one day, but I don’t push it because I want her to do it because she wants to do it. It’s always a few months in between each time.
I’m just wondering what could make them change their mind like that? I’m thinking maybe this last time was because she has a new sister who was born 8 weeks ago, but before that it was just her, so I don’t know why she will change her mind and decide she wants nothing to do with the potty.
She always gets rewarded with each potty. She gets a sticker to stick on her potty chart and a jelly bean. When she does potty train, she is quite proud of herself and happy to do it.
What causes this and how can I stop it?

I am going through the same thing with my 2.5 year old son. His fathers parents pressured me to start him training when he was only one ( because supposively his dad was potty trained when he was 9 months, yea ok) and I think that was a horrible idea! He has gone on and off doing it now like 3 times. Recently I made a prize box with candy and little dollar store party toys in it and he is excited about that and has started getting into it again.

I have a 26 month old that goes easily on the child-size potty. I’m now ready for him to start using the big potty; the main toliet. Problem is that we have an oblong toliet seat and he fell in before. Now, he won’t even try to sit on it. I’ve gone to a few websites and I can find a "child"/"potty training seat" for an oblong toliet. Any suggestions??

How long does it take to potty train a girl? Just curious.
She went potty by herself in her potty this morning without telling me. I was proud of her and I told her how proud I was.
I think she is getting the knack of things she again said potty before she went potty.

There is no particular time period. Train her on a regular schedule and be patient, she’ll learn. Good luck!
