I’ve heard people say that their baby was potty trained by like 18 months and I was wondering if this was possible? What’s the earliest age you’ve heard of?

Most kids are not even physically able to hold their bladders until 18 months, and it takes them longer to learn the "cues" and feelings that allow them to know they have to go. I’ve heard that if they are a younger sibling, they can potty train earlier, because of seeing the other kids go.

My daughter is 19 months, and will pee in the potty in the morning, but she can’t physically hold it to go to the bathroom. We just have to catch it, and know her schedule, with is more Elimination Communication, than potty training.
For potty training to occur, they usually have to be able to make it through a nap without having a wet diaper, or make it all night without a wet diaper, to show they are physically able to hold it.

ok. My daughter is about 19 months old and she shows signs of readiness for potty training. here are the signs. -she knows how to fallow simple directions, -she can stay dry for long periods of time (even while taking a nap), -she makes a face (like trying to tell me that she is going poo or pee), -and she is interested in the pull-ups and the potty seat. (she just became interested in it). She was screaming until I sat with her and showed her what to do. Now my question is how do i get her to go in it. She is interested in it, and she likes to sit on it now. So how do i get her to use it? I have her hold her fav toy and that helps. So any tips? And also can i get some type of video that teaches her and that she can enjoy while learning to use the potty? Thanx!

what helped me i stopped with the potty training for a few days to let myself calm down on it i was getting frustrated i explained the potty to her and yes have bribed her with candy. i put her in panties put the potty chair in the living room and then took her every 15 mins. we read a story after i calmed her down from kicking and screaming. when she finally went i jump up and down and made it a big deal gave her ( chocolate ) she finally got the hang of it in about 1 1/2 week now she tells me when she has to go i bought her her favorite character panties. she loves them and wants to wear them now we have been doing this for almost a month thank goodness now yes sometimes she does go in her panties thats expected though when potty training we even went out and bought dora the explorer potty seat for our big toilet now she hardly ever goes on the little potty seat also when you put her on the potty get something to put water in to let her play in believe it or not cold water works better than warm she’ll pee and then really praise her.

My daughter will be 3 at the end of June and she was potty training very well for a long time. For about a month or so now she is back to doing it in her underwear and pants. I have had to put pullups back on her because other wise I will be washing clothes all day long. I have tried rewarding her; I’ve used a sticker chart, candy, getting to watch a movie, you name it. Now she just flat out refuses, but I know she really knows how. I feel like this is just a stage but I hope that’s all it really is because she starts preschool in August!

maybe she is worried about starting nursery…I’m sure she will grow out of it and probably when she sees the other children going at toilet time she will go with them.

Q: Your 3 year-old is potty trained with regard to peeing in the potty but he refuses to poo in the potty

ie He takes a poo in his underpants or demands a diaper.

A: Your child obviously has bowel control and is very close to being completely potty trained. However; he is uncomfortable sitting on the potty and going number 2 which probably relates to constipation. Sometime in the past when he was potty training he took a hard poo in the toilet or potty and thinks it’s related to sitting on the potty and not his diet at the time.

His diaper brings him comfort and allows him to stand in a private place and bear down when he’s ready to toilet.
So what can you do to get your child comfortable enough to poo in the potty?

When dealing with any situation it’s best to have a plan of action.

Get Your Child To Poo In The Potty Plan:

1. Talk to your child about pooing in the potty but NOT when he needs to go poo
– Ask him why he doesn’t like to poo in the potty
– Tell him that every body poos in the potty, mommy, daddy etc
– Explain what constipation is and why it happens
– Tell him that poo in a diaper ends up in a landfill and is harmful to the environment

2. Take your child and show him there is only a couple of diapers left so he needs to learn to poo in the potty (keep conversation light, remind him your there to help him, if after a day or two it turns out he’s not ready then just act like you found A diaper this will buy you a little more time etc)
– Don’t create urgency and don’t create pressure

3. Check his diaper and make sure that he is producing soft poo before you transition him to the potty or toilet. (Don’t want a repeat performance)
– Pay attention to what you are feeding him and give him lots of stool-softening foods, such as whole-grain breads and cereals, fibre-rich fruit and vegetables, and plenty of water to wash it all down.
– Limit foods binders that make the poo hard. Things like to much apple, to much chocolate etc.

-If you’re child has a hard poo it could end potty training
Watch this video and avoid a major potty training STOPPER!

4. When he is on the potty or toilet ensure there is plenty of support for his feet and buttocks; because sitting properly on the potty supports the muscles in his abdomen to help him with pushing. He needs a good fitting potty where he can plant his feet firmly on the floor. If he is using the toilet get a potty seat insert, so that he feels safe and is stable and it will prevent him from falling in the bowl, and don’t forget to put a stool under his feet for support.

5. Get your child to lean forward as much as possible while sitting on the potty. This will help to open up and relax the pelvic floor muscles which must occur every time you pass a bowel movement.

6. It could also be that your son has gotten into the habit of a bad routine. So when he needs a poo he goes in his underpants or you give him a diaper and the circle keeps going around, he needs a poo he goes in his underpants or you give him a diaper etc.

You need to wean him away from the bad habit of pooing his underpants or soiling his diaper by establishing a new bowel movement routine that involves the potty or toilet. Rather than yelling at him for pooing in his underpants or giving in to his request for a diaper, invite him to use the potty in a positive way at that targets the time of day he usually goes number 2 then give positive reinforcement by praising him for trying or when he has success.

Bonus Tips:

1. If you’re child is afraid of the toilet take him into the toilet put the seat cover down put him on your lap and read a book. Flush intermittently to get s/he used to the noise

2. Use hand cream to practice washing your hands

3. Use bath taps if the toilet sink is too high

Do you want to know why people get mad at their child during potty training?

It’s because there expectation rises over time.

For example if you teach me an adult how to do something (potty training) then ask me to do it; you expect me to complete the task given.

However; if I am two or three years old and you teach me something (potty training) then ask me to go potty; early on you will be more patient and forgiving if I don’t meet the expectation.

But once 20, 30 or 40+ days pass and I have not reached the expectation
ie I am still wetting my pants you will not be so forgiving.

Now add a pinch of worldly pressures into the mix

* Your tired
* Your getting pressure at work
* Bills arrive daily
* Your fighting with your spouse etc

How patient will you be with your two year old who is still wetting their pants after 25 days?

Don’t worry in the next few minutes I will show you our proven easy to follow five step method that will allow you to potty train your child in less than 72 hours.

Everyone knows that successful toilet training is easy once you have an easy to follow step-by-step method that guides you threw the whole process from start to finish.

My daughter got the Boon potty bench for a christmas gift from her MiMi, and I have been trying to sit her on it to just play and get used to the idea. Not like sitting her on it no diaper or anything, but just sitting on it. I was looking for a smaller one for when she first starts since she’s very petitte and the Boon opening is pretty large, like she’ll totally fall in. But when I was reading the reviews a lot of people were saying about using it with their 4 month olds and stuff. I am all for getting rid of diapers ASAP, but can a baby actually get trained that young, like before a year? Also is this a good potty to start her on now? I know I was trained by 1 1/2 becuase my mom and dad used to just sit me on it starting around 10-11 months. So that was what I plan to do. I just need a smaller seat until she is big enough for the Boon one. Also if you have it, is the Boon a good model? Should I have started her at 4 months? I feel soo behind now.
I dont believe that it isnt possible to have a trained 1 1/2 year old because both me and my brother were. As well as my mom and her brother. My mom did the same with us that my grandmom did for them. If you start getting a baby 10-11 months to sit on the potty and when they go make a huge deal of it and do this 1-2 times a day to start and then increase it over the weeks and months, they can be 100% potty trained by 1 1/2. They still might have night time accidents. People think you cant potty train before 2 because they are too lazy to do what it takes to get their child potty trained. Now because of all the laziness most people dont even think about trying to train a 10-11 month old because they believe it isnt possible.
I just want to know if this is a good starter potty for her age, and if I should have started earlier?

I think it’s great you want to potty train your child this early. While reading your question, I was thinking,"oh, I can just imagine all the negative answers this one received!" I am so far pleasantly surprised that you have actually not been bashed for "pushing" the potty training. It really irritates me to hear how we shouldn’t "push" our kids to use the potty. I say, "push it!" And while your at it, go ahead and "push" other things too like giving up the bottle soon and sitting in a high chair whether you like it or not and sleeping when it’s time to sleep.

Sorry, I tend to get a little carried away when it comes to lazy and wimpy parenting.
Anyway, I’ll answer your question. I don’t have the model you are talking about myself, but I have heard from others that it is a good one to have. Go for it!
