wondering………my 23 month old boy has been potty training for the past 3 days and he is doing great my method was the toliet seats i dnt really like those floor potties u end up dumping that and then u have to show them in big toliet, i also went straight to underware sure more washing but pull ups are like diapers. my method was taking him every 10 -15 min to toliet then 25-45 min and now he can go dry for 1hr and 15 mins and dry during naps and when we go to strores dry for like 2-3 hrs. now i am just waiting for him to tell me he has to go pee pee hopefully by next week…..what has been your method and to me he is not to little

Ana -

We went straight to panties, tossed the diapers and never looked back. No bare bottom, just panties (i have a girl.) My pediatrician has always stressed the need for diversity in all things (sleeping, eating, even pottying) so we use the potty chair and from day one she was using every public toilet I could find. She likes the potty chair because it’s easier for her to sit on by herself – she can go in without us, get her panties down and do her business without always having to ask us for assistance. We have an ADA height toilet and it is really hard for her to get on it. She’ll use anything – and the potty chair really hasn’t been that big of a deal to dump and rinse.

My girl slept through the night and naps dry from day one. We never used pull ups.

I did save some diapers and we use them when she is sick with fevers and we’re trying to keep her hydrated through the night. Also, I bring a few diapers with me on airplanes. You never know when they’re going to tell you they need to pee or poop when the pilot has turned on the fasten seat belt sign. Having a diaper to be able to toss on in the seat has saved me on an airplane more than once.

For the record, we began potty training when my girl turned two. She did very well.. but/and only recently (she’s 2 1/2) did she tell me when she needs to go potty or poop. The potty thing she probably had down a few months ago, but the poop thing has taken longer… I think she has a hard time identifying the feeling of needing to poop and she sort of realizes it’s happening when it’s happening (often her eyes get wide and she looks at me a little shocked and says, "mom, I’m pooping!" as she goes careening toward the bathroom.)

While the first few days I took her to the toilet every 30 minutes to an hour, her bladder control increased very quickly and as long as I brought her to the toilet every hour or two (or more frequently if she’d recently had a lot to drink) she didn’t have accidents, but she wasn’t great at letting me know when she needed to pee/poop.

These days, she’ll go by herself without even telling me she needs to pee/poop, and she’ll also tell me proactively almost all the time.

Some things I forgot to mention was we transitioned her to a booster seat as well. The high chair is now in storage for the next one. We will be starting pottytraining prob next month as Ella is showing signs. She has a fascination with the bathroom, she follows me in and watches then tries to pull her pants down to imitate mommy. She is able to now pull her pants down. See my vid pottytraining freebies for some great free pottytraining things
