something to mull around the ol’ noggin…
I didn’t think I’d have to say this, but I’m kinda joking around here… I’m clearly a teenage girl (see profile picture) that is not a parent (see question, evidence of free time).

i say absolutely not, unless you child is playing with their genitals or you stick it on youtube.

although in today’s cotton-wooled society most likely yes :| considering taping your kids at the park means your a paedophile. btw wrong section? ;P

My daughter just turned four and we just met with a specialist about our
concerns (3 month waiting list at one Dr, 4 month wait for another Dr) this has
been going on since last October!

Finally my concerns have been validated and my daughter has signs of Autism and
Sensory Issues. We are still in the process of getting her evaulated before we
know the clear diagnosis. Anyway, I have been online trying to learn anything I
can about Autism and Sensory Issues and I see that this GFCF is HUGE! How can I get started with this eating program? I would like to start this right away.

I also heard of "Clay Baths’ and wonder if anyone is familair with them. My Dr. also suggested supplements of Multivitamin w/B complex, Zinc, Calcium, Mahnesium and Omega 3DHA 200 mg (my daughter is 40 lbs.) Can anyone recommend good vitamins/supplements for her that are GF?

She doesn’t eat many foods, so this may be interesting. She mostly eats noodles
w/butter, peanut butter and jelly, pancakes, cereal, grapes, bananas,
watermelon, peas, green beans. No meat, no juice, no eggs.

Last question…like I said she is 4 years old and we are still unable to potty
train her. I have read every book, tried every technique that my dr. recommend,
friends recommend, etc. Potty dolls, potty videos, potty books, stickers,
rewards, etc. nothing works.

Here’s the issue…she sits on the potty, wipes, flushes, washes hands, but
NEVER actually relieves herself in the potty. She pushes and I "might" hear a
drop (or it could be my imaginatation). But really she just can’t seem to

relieve herself on the potty, like she doesn’t know how?!?! She does all the
steps, but not the actual action.

She is in preschool during the day and because she wants to be in the class with
other 4 yr olds (that are potty trained) we had to make some adjustments. In
the morning before school, I put her in a pull up so she can relieve herself,
then we put her in panties for school. They put her on the potty like the other
kids every 1/2 hr. but nothing. At lunch time they put a pull up on her and
bingo! She relieves herself. They take it off, pu the panties back on and she’s
fine. When I pick her up from preschool she is in panties and we go home, I put
her on the potty…nothing….the minute that pull-up is on, she goes. It’s
like she can only go in the pull-up….well, I thought if I don’t put her in the
pull up, she will have an "Accident" and will start to understand that she needs
to go in the potty…so I figured, no more pull ups! HA! SHE HELD IT FOR 12
HOURS!! until it was bedtime and I had to put a pull up on her….how can she
hold it for that long??? (and I know that she can get a bladder infection, so
I’m not doing that again!!). Poor girl, I am really at wits end. If anyone has
suggestions, I’M LISTENING.

try sitting her on the potty with the pullup on (and pulled up) and see if she will go. Even if she is still peeing in the pullup at least she’s sitting on the potty and that’s a step in the right direction. In time she will understand. I hope the best for you!

I am interested in how to "potty" train a Shih Tzu puppy. There is a "training video" that I can buy on the net but I do not want to spend the money. Does anyone out there know of a "FREE training" site or have any other suggestions. Any other tips that would help me to have a "happy healthy puppy" would be greatly appreciated!
and by the way….I DON’T HAVE MY PUPPY YET EMILY! But thanks for the info!
and my puppy is a male…I understand there are difference between training male and female dogs….

I hate to say this but shih tzu’s are notoriously hard to potty train. Most tiny dogs are… not because of the dog but because of the owner. See, they have very tiny pee’s and it’s easy to over look a small spot.

You still have to take the dog outside on a specific schedule. Within 10 minutes after eating, right after a nap, etc.

Check the web, you’ll find all you need to know. Just be Really consistent or it could take you seriously like a year to fully potty train her.

My son is 2 1/2 and I am not sure if he is ready. We bought a potty and he ALWAYS wants to sit on the potty but I don’t think that he understands the concept of always having to go in there. We bought the video "POTTY POWER" and he loves singing the songs and sitting on the potty. He now thinks that everychair is called a potty. He has went pee pee in the potty(and floor which is to be expected) but everytime he needs to poop , he runs into his room and poops on the floor. I have a newborn also so its hard to catch him before he does it everytime.
IS he ready or should I wait a little bit – like a few months …
Thanks
also , please ONLY answer if you have experience being a mother. Thank you !
Thanks "you’ve gotta laugh" .. putting stickers on a chart is a great idea. My problem is that I am not consistant with him. Did you keep your son without diapers all the days that you were training>?

i know where you are coming from my son was 2 and he was so afraid to go poop. poor baby he was scared. so what i did was i gave him a potty chart and i put it right by the toilet and every time he went pee i would give him a sticker and if he did it for the whole week i would give him a prize. so i told him if he went poop in the potty that he would get a big surprise at the end of the week. it took a couple of days but my hard work paid off hahaha. he is three and he is, thank god, pooping in the potty.

We have been trying to train our daughter for a year. She just won’t go unless she has a pull up on. Being a long weekend, I was determined to give up the pull ups all together and let her pee on the floor and train her this weekend. We started the morning by taking her pull off up (wet) and sat her on the potty,.she sat and pretended to push, sat there and we waited…nothing. she said she was done and she wiped, flushed, washed her hands and I gave her 1 M&M and told her nice try.

I did this every 1/2 hour – She never peed yesterday from 7:30 am until THIS MORNING at 7:15 am when I put a pull up on her. Thats 24 hours!! HOW CAN THAT EVEN BE POSSIBLE??!!??!!

IN MY MIND, it seems like the only time she thinks she is allowed to pee or poop is when she has these damn pull ups on…and if she doesn’t have one on, she just doesn’t go!

I had her in underwear all day yesterday and took her on the potty every 1/2 hr. Fed her popsicles, water, juice, & milk and gave her 1 m & m everytime she sat on the potty. When it was naptime, I layed down with her, she had underwear on…I thought for sure she would pee in bed, which was fine, I was willing to strip the sheets, whatever…just as long as she peed.

Well she didn’t pee when she slept. (amazing!) then all evening the same thing, finally it was bed time….I was going to put a pull up on her, but figured I came this far, I might as well stick with the panties. I was up almost every hour last night, checking to see if she peed….unbelievably, she didn’t!!

She woke up dry this morning and I put her on the potty right away…i mean, at this point i knew she had to go. She sat on the potty, but nothing…so I’m like, ok, what do I do know?! I took a pull up and cut a hole in it, thinking I would sit her on the potty and she would pee thru the hole in the pull up. I put the pull up on her, walked to the kitchen and by the time I came back, she had peed on the floor.

Ok, so I said yeah, you peed, next time let’s do it on the potty. cut another hole in the next pull up and within 10 minutes she peed on the floor again…ok, yeah, you peed, next time lets go on the potty. What do I do now? back to pull-ups? back to her holding it for 24 hrs (which I know is NOT healthy)…I am at my wits end, my boys were potty trained at 2.

I have read every book and article on potty training. I tried the videos, dolls, stickers, books, etc. I am desperate and discouraged.
Again, I am trying to ditch the pull ups, but how can I when she holds it for 24 hours??? Can’t she get a bladder or kidney infection to hold her urine for that long? I mean, 24 hours (even thru sleeping) in cloth underwear and still she’s holding it!

What worked for my daughter was keeping her naked. We hid all the pull-ups and said they didn’t make them anymore and that she would have to go on the toilet. She panicked, cried, screamed but eventually gave-in, sat on the toilet and went #1 and #2 and after one good day of this and about another day and a half of encouraging it, she was potty trained. We did use pull-ups at night for about another 2 weeks and then she was completely potty trained.

Ask the pediatrician about her holding it for so long but if she learns you are not going to put a pull-up on her, she’s eventually going to have to go and can’t hold it anymore. Give her cranberry juice with water and a ton of it.

I read this and answered this just a moment ago. However, I don’t think you mentioned she was developmentally delayed before. Maybe she’s just not ready to be potty trained yet. You might need to stop trying to potty train for a week or more and then re-introduce it again. She could be scared of it right now and trying to potty train her at this moment is going to get you nowhere. You should talk to her educators, therapists, etc., about the best techniques they have used and if they think she is ready.

how is she peeing on the floor–stay with her and prompt her to sit down..

maybe find a better reward–does she highly desire M&M’s or does she have other things she gets more excited for?

i get a lot of items at a dollar store..mini fans that light up, things that make sound, mini vibrators

one little girl loved cold things against her face–so we froze web dishing washing towels and gave her one to touch to her face

4-5 is not unusual for kids with special needs

and at least she is peeing with the hole….once she is successful–keep making it bigger
