My son is 2 1/2 and I am not sure if he is ready. We bought a potty and he ALWAYS wants to sit on the potty but I don’t think that he understands the concept of always having to go in there. We bought the video "POTTY POWER" and he loves singing the songs and sitting on the potty. He now thinks that everychair is called a potty. He has went pee pee in the potty(and floor which is to be expected) but everytime he needs to poop , he runs into his room and poops on the floor. I have a newborn also so its hard to catch him before he does it everytime.
IS he ready or should I wait a little bit – like a few months …
Thanks
also , please ONLY answer if you have experience being a mother. Thank you !
Thanks "you’ve gotta laugh" .. putting stickers on a chart is a great idea. My problem is that I am not consistant with him. Did you keep your son without diapers all the days that you were training>?
i know where you are coming from my son was 2 and he was so afraid to go poop. poor baby he was scared. so what i did was i gave him a potty chart and i put it right by the toilet and every time he went pee i would give him a sticker and if he did it for the whole week i would give him a prize. so i told him if he went poop in the potty that he would get a big surprise at the end of the week. it took a couple of days but my hard work paid off hahaha. he is three and he is, thank god, pooping in the potty.

i think you should train him NOW! but i have no experience in parenting and children

yes i did he felt like a big boy with them on so it made him even more confident, yes there were some accidents but i just told him if he goes on the potty he can have a sticker so that worked haha.
At his age, unless there’s developmental problems or physical problems, he’s ready. You might want to try having an open door policy on your bathroom (not for guests, of course, but for you and the child’s father). Tell him Oh, mommy has to go potty. Take a book that he would enjoy into the bathroom with you and sit (a little longer than you really need to!) while you read the book. When you stand up, look in the toilet and say I peed, or I pooped, see? Now I’ll flush and wash my hands. That way you are modeling the behavior you want to see. And if he sees that daddy pees standing up, that’s often a major selling point for little boys! Haha! If he wants to try the big potty, float a couple of cheerios in the water and tell him to try to hit the cheerios. That will encourage good aim! And yes, take that diaper off for good, at least during the day. You’ll have some wet, soiled clothes to deal with for a short time, but he will catch on faster if he is able to see and feel the results.
