I am interested in how to "potty" train a Shih Tzu puppy. There is a "training video" that I can buy on the net but I do not want to spend the money. Does anyone out there know of a "FREE training" site or have any other suggestions. Any other tips that would help me to have a "happy healthy puppy" would be greatly appreciated!

and my puppy is a male…I understand there are difference between training male and female dogs….
I hate to say this but shih tzu’s are notoriously hard to potty train. Most tiny dogs are… not because of the dog but because of the owner. See, they have very tiny pee’s and it’s easy to over look a small spot.
You still have to take the dog outside on a specific schedule. Within 10 minutes after eating, right after a nap, etc.
Check the web, you’ll find all you need to know. Just be Really consistent or it could take you seriously like a year to fully potty train her.
first off, you should have figured this out BEFORE you got your dog.
here’s how you do it.
whenever you are unable to keep a constant eye on her or need to leave the house always have her in a create only big enough for her to lye down in. (dogs wont pee where they sleep)
when you are able to keep a constant eye on her however, let her out and immediately when you see her start to squat or sniff around take her outside. stay with her for as long as it take (she will eventually go) when she does, give her ALOT of praise and maybe even a treat.
do this every time and eventually she’ll catch on.
also, if you do happen to miss her going one time (which is a big no no, it is extremely important you always catch her in the act) don’t scold her, she wont understand what you’re scolding her for. simply clean it up (even if you clean it up so that you yourself can’t see it or smell it, your puppy may still be able to. so once it looks good to you, go over the spot one more time just to make sure) if a dog smells urine or feces they will use that spot as their bathroom.

but for the male and female difference, there really isn’t much difference in training them to use the bathroom outside. males may try marking where they smell other dogs pee and they will start lifting their leg at about 6 months.
however, if they get neutered at around this time or a little before they may never feel the need to lift their leg.

PS Use a crate small enough for your pup so she won’t potty in it.
Okay this will take you a roughly count of 2 weeks until you see some results…. it maybe less it all depends on the puppy itself.
