When should I start toilet training my child? Is it different for girls and boys?

You should start toilet training somewhere around age 2 years of age. It really doesn’t matter if it’s a boy or girl in terms of when they start. It’s more about when the child is showing signs of readiness. The signs of readiness are them able to tell you that they are wet or dirty, they’re able to walk well, pull their pants up and down without falling over, that they’re able to be dry after a nap, or a period of time, or in the morning when they get up. Once they’re doing that, then you’re ready to start the process, and that could be anywhere from age 2 to age 3 1/2. There’s a huge variability on it, so not to worry if they’re 2 and haven’t shown any interest. My suggestions are that if you start, you want to be consistent. So you wait til you have those signs of readiness, and then once you have those signs then you want to offer them the opportunity to go to the bathroom about every 90 minutes or so during day. What you say to them is not, “do you want to go potty”? Instead you say, “Do you want to try to potty now or after we…” do something, like, “Now or after we wash our hands?” “Now or after we have our sandwich?” “Now, or after we brush our teeth?” ‘Cause 2 year-olds are about being independent. They want to be in control, so if you let them have a choice they will do much better. If they say “No”, you say “Okay, we’ll try later”, and an hour and a half later you ask them again. What will happen is eventually they’ll go or have to go at the time you ask and you’ll catch em, and it’ll be like bingo, “that’s what it’s like to go to the bathroom.”

The biggest mistake that families make is either they start too early before they are showing signs of readiness, or they’re inconsistent. They do it some days, they don’t do it other days. They do it when it’s convenient and the kid get confused. And after you pass that window then it becomes more of a fight and a control issue, and actually makes the process much more complicated.

I bought this potty chair for my Granddaughter who is 17 months old and beginning to potty train. First of all it

looks just like a big potty, only it’s their size. The perfect size at that. Her feet touch the ground perfectly. It

has a cute smiley face on the ‘tank’ part, which is a great back rest. The lid easily opens and closes just like a

big potty. It also has a handle so the child can ‘flush’ and on the opposite side of the ‘tank’ a retractable toilet

paper holder that holds any size toilet paper roll. If you don’t want to put the paper on it, just push holder in and

it’s gone! The other awesome feature is it fits perfectly to a big size toilet seat. At first I wasn’t sure it was

going to fit, I thought my seat was to small, but then I pushed it down until it snapped into place and WOW…it fits

nice and snug! Doesn’t move around or slide at all!! AND there are NO gaps between the little seat and the big seat.

It’s a perfect fit. To remove it, simply squeeze in the clips underneath and take it off. On top of ALL of these

great features, it also has a sensor so it sings once the child goes potty. You don’t even need a lot. I poured in a

very small amount to test it first to see how loud it was or how much it would take to set it off and it goes off

immediately once anything touches the sensor, which is located at the center bottom of the removable bowl. It plays a

little child’s voice singing a happy song, tells them to use paper and flush and is not to loud or annoying. For kids

that might be frightened of it, you can very easily turn it off on a switch under the unit.The product is strong and

will last through several potty trainers. I HIGHLY recommend this product!

We are currently training our 2nd child. With our first, we had 3 in diapers, giving us MAJOR motivation to get him

potty trained, so we tried almost every seat out there. Most of them were okay, but just got nasty quckly, were hard

to disinfect, or were uncomfortable for my son. The ones with the removable splash gaurd are not gentle and can

scrape a child’s sensitive parts. Those were awful. We were “potty training” for a full year before we finally saw

the BabyBjorn potty chair in a local botique, and DS immediately sat in it. He chose blue, and we took it home.

Within a week, he was trained, and began using the “big boy seat”, so we saved the seat for our daughter. It was

incredable! Now our 23 month old daughter is training. We bought her this white babybjorn seat for our downstairs

bathroom, with the blue upstairs. She has been “training” for 6 days now, and is almost completely day trained!

This seat is by far the best in our experiences. Here’s why: 1. the seat has a higher back and sides, which gives the

child support while sitting down, standing up, or simply sitting there. 2. It is NOT easy to tip! several of the

others we tried tipped without much effort when our child was putting pressure on the sides trying to sit down or

stand. 3. It is super easy to clean – there aren’t a bunch of seams to gather gunk, it’s easy to wipe down with a

clorox wipe and be done. It’s also super easy to take the little bucket out, and soak in clorox or hose down. 4. Kids

can choose what color they want! This was such a big deal to my children — also, they are solid colors that can

look nice with your bathroom. The surface is also nice that your child can decorate the back with cute stickers if

wanted. 5. It works for children of all different sizes! My son was 40″ and 42lbs when potty training, and my

daughter is 25lbs and a little shrimp, and this seat fit them both WONDERFULLY.

Overall, having tried MANY seats, this one was the absolute best for both our children, and I would highly reccomend

it to anyone in need of a seat for potty training success

3 month old labrador Retriever Puppy doing tricks

This is my new puppy Maya, she is 3 months old born May 5 this year. I have been clicker training her for about 9 days and we’ve had her for about 14 days total. We use the harness for walking her and the bell to notice when she stops so we don’t yank her head off, the harness has worked a lot better then a regular collar when we go on walks. focusdog.com

This is a video on how I got my stubborn toddler daughter to be potty trained using underwear with minimum mistakes. She became accidents free unless she is sleeping at night. Everytime your child goes on the potty give them a small reward (m&m’s and a sticker) as well as a sticker at night for their chart for staying dry all day with underwear on.
